New Years day 2020!
0This New Years we went to Ninety mile with some friends and camped at the beach, it was fun! We got tuatua for dinner, mum cooked them on a tiny BBQ we have, then we slept under the stars, in the sand dunes. The sunset was beautiful!
The next morning we got up early and went to Scotts point where we got mussels off the rocks for breakfast, we cooked them in “socks” made from bull kelp with samphire. Then we went up TePaki stream and went for a walk to what I call “Teapot mountain” from the top we could see all around us so we went exploring in the sand, it was really cool!
Afterwards we went up the stream some more and my friends, Blossom, Imogen and I went sand boarding, then we went for a swim to wash off the sand at Te Paki lakes before heading home.
It was a good trip! 😀

0Netting. 28.12.2019
We set the net with some friends, we didn’t catch many fish though so we decided to leave it in overnight….I probably won’t do that again!
I went down to check the net first thing in the morning and it had tonnes of fish in it! There were heaps of mullet two yellow eye, one kahawai and a parore, it took me TWO HOURS to clear the net then pack it up! The water was only knee deep which was good because it was cold!
I loaded some into a 20ltr bucket and got some flax to make strings for the rest, then I lugged them all up the hill to our house.
I called our friends to help us deal with them and started to get them ready for the big smoker, we split the fish and washed them then put brown sugar and salt on them and put them in the smoker, they smoked for 5 hours and they were ready.
We gave lots away to our friends and the neighbors, we gave some to Nan and uncle John, there were lots!
They were very yummy smoked fish, some of them had big fat roes, they are the best!

Mmmmm! Smoked mullet.

Me setting the net.

My morning’s catch!
