FIRE!!
0Mum got a call the other day while we were doing dishes at home, the man on the other end was quite upset, he needed a key to get on to our farm where we are building our house because there was a FIRE!
My heart nearly stopped! Was our new house on fire?
No, he said it was the grass in the paddock, mum got the farm worker to bring him a key and we waited for news!
It’s really dry in the Far North, here are some links which might be interesting…

There is a drought where we live, it hasn’t rained since November 2019 and everything is very dry, the grass is dead, even the trees are dying, our orchard trees are dying, even though we water them as much as possible, it’s horrible. I put some of our trees out in the lake to keep them alive (they are still in their pots) but the lake is almost dry now too.

All that is left of our lake…
We waited to hear how the firefighters were getting on, finally mum had a call from her friend who flies a he told us that the fire was nearly out and it was not too close to our house….WHEW!
Here are some pictures from the next day….

Burned grass

The fire came from the right.

Our fence is gone…
Australia burns 05.01.2020
0Today was creepy! In the morning things started to change. We’ve had really smoggy weather for weeks, so much so that our solar panels were not powering our system right, I’ve seen it before, when Australia burns, (like Tazi a few years ago) we get smoke, sometimes it even stinks. This was a bit different. The sky started to go orange! It sure made you feel a sense of doom, like something was coming….you just weren’t sure what.
Things that were red sort of “blended in”, green things didn’t look right, the chooks went to bed earlier than normal, people rang…just to see if we had noticed.
Lots of people talked about how bad the fires were in Australia, it was like they had forgotten that there are always fires burning there. When I was at Mt House in NT with mum for three months a bush fire burned the whole time we were there, slowly eating the trees and bits of grass, a few times the workers went out to fight the fire when it got too close to the homestead but nobody got all worked up about it. I think that the bush in Australia burned so bad because it hadn’t had a fire go through in years, mostly because people don’t like the smoke or the smell or that sometimes their homes burn down. I feel sorry for the people who lost their homes. I hope they learned to burn the bush more often so it’s not as bad next time.

Our car, blending in.
